Hey TX | March 2024 Update
Here's the latest for Hey TX, including HandyCon 24 and a six-figure USD HNS domain sale!
HandyCon 2024
HandyCon 2024, an online conference for and by the HNS community, concluded recently. Bitmain and other HNS community members sponsored the free event. All of the sessions have been uploaded to SkyInclude’s youtube channel, including my participation in a panel discussion on The Happening. Overall, this was another impressive HandyCon event, it being the fourth one. There was positive energy and sentiment on the upcoming year ahead, and builders shared about exciting projects that they have been working on.
.b → .h → .m → .q
Even after The Happening commenced (learn here), there have continued to be grand opportunities to acquire premium HNS names. The latest was this past week where four 1L TLDs (.b, .h, .m, .q) came up for auction. Note: this occurred due to the previous owner holding these domains in a self-custodial wallet and didn’t send a renewal heartbeat transaction within the past two years.
While the month of February recorded the highest amount of chain activity in Handshake’s four-year history, this month witnessed record-breaking domain prices during these decentralized, on-chain auctions. Anyone with hns coin could bid during these 5-day auctions, and the winner paid the 2nd highest bid for the TLD.
As you can see below, 8 out of the top 9 bids of all time for Handshake took place with these four TLDs. This not only demonstrates that the protocol is alive and well, but also that there is considerable interest from whales or commercial players. 4 million hns will effectively be burned for .h (100K+ USD)! This equates to .65% of the circulating coin supply (618 million) being burned for just this one name, with more than 50 million hns (8% of supply) being burned to-date. These names becoming available for the first time since 2020 is a signal that there will continue to be opportunities in HNS as well as the tokenomics will make hns coin truly deflationary over the long-term. While these sales likely won’t receive mainstream crypto coverage due to Handshake not having a centralized marketing department, .h is the highest NFT domain sale of the year so far in 2024.
Here are initial thoughts on what .h can represent.
.h is in your mind: .heaven or .hell.
.h can be a greeting: .hi, .hey, .hello, .howdy.
.h can be a place: .Hawaii or .home.
.h is the ultimate shortener for all things that start with h, including .hns, .handshake, and .help!
As these names can provide both decentralized censorship-resistant sites and digital identity, the possibilities are endless.
Out of .b, .h, .m, and .q, which one do you think is the best? Out of the English alphabet, what letter would be the best top level domain?
